The Minnesota Timberwolves have the opportunity to build on an impressive season and become true contenders over the next couple of years. That starts this offseason, when the Timberwolves have some tough decisions to make.

Given their current salary cap situation, the Timberwolves may need to look at some trade options this offseason in order to increase their free agency standing.

Not only are there some big names on the market this offseason, but there are some key players that could potentially transform the Wolves into a Finals-caliber team.

With the cap space of the Wolves looking somewhat dire at the moment, trading some big-money players such as Andrew Wiggins, Gorgui Dieng or Jimmy Butler would likely be necessary to accommodate some of these big names. Whether the Wolves would be open to trading away key players from a 47-win playoff team is yet to be seen, but with some future Hall of Famers available, it would be hard not to make a push for these guys.

Personally, I’m happy with the team the Wolves have built, and if they choose to give them another season together, I’d be excited to see how far they can make it. Without injuries to Butler, it’s entirely possible the Timberwolves would’ve nabbed the fourth-seed, and the playoffs could’ve been a whole lot more successful.

But with Jimmy Butler potentially hitting free agency after next season, Andrew Wiggins with a disappointing season (compared to expectations) and Gorgui Dieng on a contract value way over his productivity, some player movements to secure the future may be worth making.

Here are five top-tier free agents the Timberwolves can try to lure to Minnesota this offseason.
