#2 – Kevin Durant

Another former MVP with a player option this offseason is Kevin Durant. Similarly to LeBron, Durant has the ability to completely transform the Timberwolves into a legitimate contender.

This one may be even more of a stretch than LeBron, as Durant’s previous move to Golden State seemed to be about joining a team already in win-now mode, whereas Minnesota’s current condition is one step back.

Sure, Durant’s 26.4 points, 5.4 assists, 6.8 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game would push the Timberwolves into that position of a contender, but I can’t see him joining a team that still has a couple of steps to go before becoming contenders without a player such as himself joining.

That being said, that can all be accomplished in one offseason, as the Timberwolves proved with their number of impressive moves last year. If the cards fall right, there’s always a chance Durant could venture North if he gets bored of the sunshine state.

No matter how absurd or unlikely it may seem, every free agency push has to start somewhere.

Unlike a lot of teams out there, the Timberwolves did make the playoffs, and were only just shy of the fourth seed, which one would imagine would’ve been attainable without injuries to Jimmy Butler. The Wolves may not have that Golden State type championship readiness just yet, but adding Durant to the mix would certainly push us into that area.

Durant decided to surprise the NBA world with his last big free agency move, why not do it again this offseason?

A frontcourt combination of Durant and Karl-Anthony Towns is truly something to imagine….
