A quick look at the first Minnesota Timberwolves schedule release
The NBA schedule is (slowly) being released and we are starting to have an idea of what will be upcoming for the Minnesota Timberwolves during the 2018-19 season.
It’s about that time of the year: the NBA schedule is starting to come out.
Instead of releasing it all at once, the league instead drops a few games on key dates. Thus far, the NBA has released the preseason schedule and nationally-televised opening week, Christmas Day and Martin Luther King Jr., Day games.
Sadly, Minnesota will not be on any national-televised games for opening week or the two holidays, which is a departure from the first two years of the Tom Thibodeau era. They will still play during opening week, of course, but instead of playing in front of the national audience, they will instead be playing on local TV.
After having back-to-back years with Christmas Day games, it wasn’t a shock that the Wolves weren’t included this year, although not being included in any of the nationally-televised opening week games was a bit surprising. The team still has two All-Stars in Jimmy Butler and Karl-Anthony Towns, after all.
Since they weren’t announced on any of the national TV games, the Wolves still don’t know when they will be playing. What we do know, however, are their preseason games.
To be honest, the Wolves preseason games are going to be very entertaining — as far as preseason goes, of course.
The Warriors are the Warriors, the Los Angeles Clippers are another team that will be fun to watch with their two new draft picks alongside Tobias Harris, DeAndre Jordan and Louis Williams.
Then, there is the Oklahoma City Thunder, who will be pushing Minnesota in the playoff race. It will also most likely be the Wolves’ only game at the Target Center before the regular season starts.
Then, of course there’s the border battle with Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks that highlight the final two games of the preseason. The time is still to be announced for the Oct. 7 game, but while it’s listed as a home game it may not necessarily be at Target Center. Remember, the Wolves have played in South Dakota, Iowa, and Nebraska in the last few years as part of the league’s preseason reach to arenas that don’t typically host NBA basketball.
The preseason schedule will start on Sept. 29 and end Oct. 12. We’re a little under two months until we get to see live basketball again and that time can’t come soon enough.
