Minnesota Timberwolves: 2 Jimmy Butler trade scenarios with the Miami Heat
By Trey Flynn
The Minnesota Timberwolves have had several trade proposals fabricated about their franchise players in Jimmy Butler, Karl-Anthony Towns, and Andrew Wiggins this offseason – all for good reason.
Similar to pretty much all Minnesota Timberwolves fans, I most definitely don’t want any of the three Wolves’ stars to leave the franchise. But, there is a strong possibility that Jimmy Butler opts out next offseason and the Timberwolves don’t really have a chance to go to the NBA finals this season, so why keep a rental?
With Butler’s play making ability at the shooting guard position, any playoff contending team would trade for a talent as great as his. The question is, who trades for Butler?
While the obvious teams may be the Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Lakers, or even the Philadelphia 76ers, we have a potential trade that has a lot of backing right now.
The Miami Heat have been reported to want Hassan Whiteside out of South Florida, and if you’re not aware of Whiteside’s talent, he’s a 14 points and 12 rebounds per game kind of big man. While many people question his personality and commitment to team basketball, he would pair perfectly next to Towns to do what KAT cannot, which is guard underneath the hoop.
"Via, Hoops Rumors “Miami has made Johnson, Hassan Whiteside and Waiters available in trade talks this summer but hasn’t found much of a market for the trio, two unnamed league GMs told Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald. The Heat’s best chance of falling under the luxury-tax threshold would be moving Johnson for a player making less money, Jackson adds.”"
Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald is one of the more credited reporters in South Florida and I would bet that a trade including Whiteside is inevitable.
So what would the trade look like?
