Best-Case Scenario

Okogie has all the potential in the world to become a great player. His work ethic is solid and he has gained comparisons from a lot of great NBA players — one of which is Butler, of course.

The hope is that he can become an elite defender and become a positive contributor on the offensive end. The ability for him to get there one day is not out of the question. He could do it this year, but it’s unlikely because of inexperience and his unknown playing time.

In the summer league we did see some solid highlights from the young guard. Jake Paynting put together a video here of some of Okogie’s best defensive moments.

If he can do stuff like this over the course of the season, it would be pretty hard for Thibs to hold his minutes back. Despite not playing the best offensively, Okogie could figure things out in relatively short order, especially when it comes to the fastbreak and being a solid spot-up shooter.

Oh, and there’s this:

Imagine him running the wing with either Butler or Andrew Wiggins. Wow.

He has the intangibles and athleticism to become a good player and if things go right for the rookie, he could play himself into the Rookie of the Year conversation. There are a lot of talented young players this season, but he does have the ability to win it this year … if he gets the minutes, of course
