The Minnesota Timberwolves’ 2K19 ratings for their starting lineup were released late afternoon yesterday, and we’re not sure how to feel about it.
Not much has changed the NBA 2K ratings this year for the Minnesota Timberwolves starters, but it’s still some interesting news for the huge video game fans out there who love 2K.
Luckily, we were able to catch the starters rating for the Wolves.
With three players over an 80 overall in the starting lineup, you’d think that Minnesota would be one of the higher rated teams in the game. However, last year’s team was barely a playoff contender and was rated pretty poorly all together.
2K actually doesn’t say the Wolves roster has matched up that well in terms of scheme over the past few versions of the game, especially 2K18. With Butler only playing a little of 50 games last season, it’s still been hard for the game creators to trust the talent of the team when all players are healthy.
Especially after that terrible first round exit against the Houston Rockets last season, the Wolves were hoping to get some higher rated talent this season.
Alas, the roster didn’t change much. Karl-Anthony Towns went up to a 91 overall, which still wasn’t that big of a deal because everyone knows how high his ceiling is. But, Jimmy Butler sitting at an 89 overall is a bit surprising, his talent seems equal, if not better than Towns at the moment (aside from injuries, which may be why).
Jeff Teague opens up at a 79 overall, only a point above a guard like Patrick Beverley, which is probably a pretty good comparison at this point. While Teague has had high expectations by man fans, he hasn’t produced nearly close to what is expected of him each season.
Wiggins coming in at a 81 overall was so accurate that it was disappointing. Andrew Wiggins‘ potential is so high that the 81 is almost a slap in everyone’s face. It especially hurts when guys like Jayson Tatum and Donovan Mitchell are already rated 87 overall, which is asinine because they will be second year players.
Then we have Taj Gibson, who played in all 82 games last season and did his job more efficiently that most players at his position or age. His stamina and hustle should be rated at 99 for all that he’s done in his career, and I would at least have given him a 78 overall.
As for the bench, we know that Tyus Jones is a 74 overall and everyone else doesn’t matter that much. We had one of our featured writers propose some potential ratings for each of our players more in detail if you click here.
Overall, hopefully 2K19 is a better game than the people they chose to rate the players. It seems there is a lot of favoritism to the obvious teams, with most of the players being thrown to the side for seconds.
