On the first day of training camp for the Minnesota Timberwolves, rookie guard Josh Okogie is already turning heads.

Tuesday was the first day of training camp for the Minnesota Timberwolves, and despite all the dark clouds in Minnesota right now, Josh Okogie making Wolves fans feel a little better.

Okogie was picked No. 20 in June’s draft after attending Georgia Tech — a school not exactly known as a basketball powerhouse.

Which, of course, is at least partly why Okogie wasn’t picked until the last third of the first round. He wasn’t on the radar of many Wolves fans prior to the draft, but based on his performance in Las Vegas Summer League and what we’ve seen so far, it may have been a fantastic pick.

Here were his stats as a Yellow Jacket:

For whatever it’s worth, Okogie is now a member of the Timberwolves. The biggest things that Okogie was known for coming out of college is his defense, toughness, length and athleticism, and shooting potential.

And, believe it or not, he’s already turning heads in training camp.

Jace Fredrick from the Pioneer Press reported the story from Tuesday’s training camp. Tyus Jones had this to say about Okogie.

"“He never stops on both ends of the floor. His motor is crazy. That’s really something that’s going to help this team, because that’s contagious.”"

You may recall that he garnered plenty of comparisons to soon-to-be former Wolf Jimmy Butler. Butler looks to be on his way out soon, and that’ll open up the door for more opportunities. Who they get in return will play a role in minutes as well, of course, but that remains to be seen.

Okogie is 6-foot-4 and 207 pounds and will find his best fit at shooting guard, although the Wolves will surely mix-and-match Okogie and Andrew Wiggins at the two and three spots.

dark. Next. Jimmy Butler trade possibilities...

This would create a lot of fun for fans and give a chance for Okogie to show out; he looks to have a bright future ahead of him. Butler departing may be a good thing for the rookie in the long run.
