The drama about the Minnesota Timberwolves continues again on Friday, Oct. 11th, the team will not be practicing today and it’s not a good look.
The Minnesota Timberwolves find themselves in the heart of all of the drama these last few weeks. During Wednesday’s practice, Jimmy Butler went off and made a big scene, he was yelling at teammates and coaching staff.
Then of course, Rachel Nichols and ESPN just happened to be in Minnesota to interview Butler after his meltdown (this was undoubtedly setup by Butler’s camp). Which made things a lot worse than it really needed to be.
After Butler came into practice, made a big scene and took on an interview about the whole situation; The Timberwolves have told media that there will be no practice and media availability on Thursday. It’s safe to assume that because of Wednesday’s mess, the Wolves decided to shutdown practice.
This is simply a bad look for Minnesota. There was several breaking news and tweets from Wednesday’s practice, two of which looked like this:
"Via, ESPN (Adrian Wojnarowski)“At one point in a scrimmage, sources said, Butler turned to GM Scott Layden and screamed, ‘You (bleeping) need me. You can’t win without me.’ Butler left teammates and coaches largely speechless. He dominated the gym in every way. Jimmy’s back.”"
Woj also went on to say that supposedly Butler went on to beat the starting lineup while playing with the third team, again, not a great look.
Minnesota not coming out with a statement or even stopping Butler from doing all this is inexcusable. There should be no reason to let this happen. Would the San Antonio Spurs, Boston Celtics and the Miami Heat let this happen? No.
Because Tom Thibodeau continues to be love blind about Butler, Minnesota has suffered mightily. The players look like they have no heart on the court thus far in preseason as well. There are two main people blame for all of this and that’s Butler and Thibodeau, possibly even Glen Taylor for not dealing with this sooner.
The Minnesota staff is too blame, but Thib’s is the main source. There should be no reason Minnesota allows Butler to touch the floor again with the Timberwolves.
Yahoo! Sports writer Shams Charania illustrates in this video that Butler warned Minnesota that this would happen. Yet, they still allowed all him to come back. Glen Taylor will need to intervene in all of this and hopefully trade Butler out of Minnesota so that all of this drama can die down.
The next step may be to fire Thib’s and find some franchise stability.
What’s going on can’t continue to drag on, because it’s only making things worse. Instead of canceling practice, Minnesota should not allow Butler to come near the team until he’s traded.
They should also be coming out with a statement regarding this conflict.
Whatever is going on in the Twin Cities, needs to come to an end. Minnesota cancelling practice is probably due to Butler making a scene in Wednesday’s practice. This move by Minnesota is an awful look and it’ll be interesting to see how this all plays out.
