The Minnesota Timberwolves’ new City edition jerseys with a nod to local legend Prince appear to have been leaked. What do you think?
After the Minnesota Timberwolves‘ gray City edition jerseys from a year ago were left off the schedule for the upcoming season and a yet-to-be announced jersey was confirmed, it was fair to wonder if it would be the end of the gray unis and the introduction of a new design entirely.
An apparent leak has confirmed that theory, with new purple jerseys seemingly paying homage to the late pop legend Prince and his hometown of Minneapolis.
Prince, whose album Purple Rain sold over 20 million copies worldwide and went platinum 13 times in the US, was born and raised in Minneapolis. The singer passed away tragically in Minnesota in 2016 at the age of 57.
Reaction to the gray jerseys was mixed, yet it is still surprising to see them go after just one season. But, at least in my opinion, these Prince-inspired jerseys look pretty fresh. The old-school font mixes well with the purple, and the “MPLS” scroll on the shorts gives me a feel of home, even though I’m halfway around the globe.
Tell me you can’t imagine KAT and the squad dunking on opponents in these bad boys.
A bunch of other teams’ City designs have reportedly been leaked, and an official reveal is reportedly scheduled for the second week of November. But these jerseys seem pretty legitimate in my opinion — and if not, the team should consider this design.
The first date which the jersey to be worn is yet-to-be-determined on the schedule is Nov. 16, meaning we could see the new purple City edition threads debuted on that night as we mentioned in our previous look at the jersey schedule. The last of the unknown dates is April 5.
The public reception to the leak has mostly been positive from what I’ve seen on Twitter, which is good news for the Wolves.
The question remains, of course: while the Timberwolves are paying tribute to Purple Rain, will they make it rain threes on the court?
Bad puns aside, I’m hoping this supposed leak is the real deal, because these jerseys look great!
Keep your eyes out in early November for an official reveal of the Timberwolves’ new jerseys. Lets hope to see some purple…
