Jimmy Butler traded to the Atlanta Hawks
The Atlanta Hawks have a lot of potential in their young roster that seems to be led by their veteran leader off the bench in Vince Carter.
Can’t believe that’s a sentence in 2018.
They are 2-6 and are most likely going to tank this season, just hoping to get their young guys some JV minutes.
The only player that could have some real potential in return for Jimmy Butler and his contract is Kent Bazemore, who is a misunderstood player in Atlanta.
Bazemore will be on his final year of his deal next year on a player option of $19 million, but he averages 14 PPG and is a pretty well-rounded threat on both sides of the ball. The knock on Bazemore was that he could never live up to the expectation of his contract, which isn’t his fault.
He was essentially signed for the same deal the Miami Heat gave Tyler Johnson, which pretty much proves the NBA cap that summer was REALLY messed up.
Bazemore could be a solid player at the starting guard next to Wiggins and will be 30-years-old when his contract is up, and he’ll be ready to sign a deal much lesser than his current one with a few solid years left in his tank.
The Hawks first round pick Omari Spellman is a stretch-four who is shooting close to 39 percent from three on 18 attempts in 7 games, which is a pretty good sign for the 20-year-old former Villanova big man.
The other two assets are in the form of draft picks which will most likely be very high, mostly due to the recent poor history of the Hawks’ records.
Ultimately, Jimmy Butler would be leading this Hawks team very similarly to the way he led the Chicago Bulls in his last few seasons before Minnesota.
However, there is real young talent on this team with Trae Young, Taurean Prince, and John Collins – so the experience could be better than the Bulls.
