The Contracts

Jimmy Butler will have the option to become an unrestricted free agent in the summer 2019 after declining a $110 million, four-year contract extension offer this summer.

This appears not only selfish, but that he also wants out of Minnesota at some point during or after this season. (Of course, by waiting until next summer Butler will be eligible for an even bigger contract.)

However, let’s also consider that last fall Andrew Wiggins signed a max contract for five years worth $150 million. This fall, Karl-Anthony Towns signed a five-year, max contract for $190 million. Even though Butler will be paid comparably next summer, it’s understandable that he’d be frustrated with his teammates’ contract numbers.

And not only is Jimmy Butler outscoring Wiggins and KAT this season, he also outscored both of those players last season.

“But Jimmy Butler is 29 years old”, they say. So? Steph Curry and Kevin Durant are both 30. LeBron James is 34. Jimmy Butler has at least five years in him, and all of those could have been for Minnesota.
