Minnesota Timberwolves: Player grades for first quarter of the season
By Trey Flynn
Jeff Teague – Player Grade C+
While Jeff Teague has been one of the more prolific facilitators around the league averaging 7.6 assists per game, he is having one of the worst shooting slumps in recent memory.
Teague, through 16 games, is averaging 12.6 PPG with shooting splits of 40.9 from the field and 29.2 percent from downtown.
However, the solution could be simple for Teague to have a more consistent stat line to help the Wolves win.
You simply place Teague and Derrick Rose in the starting lineup, but that move hasn’t been made yet. The inconsistency of lineups that Teague plays with has hurt his chemistry with the rest of the roster, making it difficult to even give the All-Star a C+.
To put Teague’s poor play in perspective, he’s having his worst numbers since his 2011-12 NBA season as a 23-year-old. Teague is now a 9 year veteran and former All-Star, only at the age of 30-years-old.
Alas, Teague in the starting lineup is still necessary, as he is in most of the best Wolves’ lineups throughout the first 22 games of this season. Moving forward, you can expect the Wolves’ to try and take away shots from Wiggins and Teague and focus on getting the newly acquired Dario Saric and Robert Covington more involved.
