Tyus Jones – Player Grade C

While most NBA analysts in Minnesota love the king of plus/minus (aka: Tyus Jones) over the past few weeks, I have not fallen for his tricks.

Tyus Jones is really good at doing the bare minimum so he doesn’t mess up, it’s like the player who wants to make varisty at his/her high school but only does it for the varsity letter and a few starts here and there to get popular (in this case money).

Obviously I’m not a fan of Tyus Jones, nor am I a fan of point guard who will average 12 PPG and 7 AST as their ceilings (*cough* a poor mans Jeff Teague *cough*).

With Jones being on a contract year and the Phoenix Suns literally dying for a point guard, either selling Jeff Teague or Tyus Jones makes way too much sense for players like T.J. Warren.

I’m not arguing for changing up this roster now that they’re on a 3 game winning streak, but I just want to clarify that Tyus Jones is a average bench player in the NBA who will likely get up to $7 million dollar offers from teams around the league.

And Minnesota can’t waste that money when they’re already coming close to the luxury tax.

But, alas, as many will remind me from reading this slide, this piece is about how well the players have done throughout a quarter of the 2018-19 season.

Tyus Jones has a great plus/minus and is a well rounded player. But, he is averaging his worst shooting splits of his career, shooting 34 percent from the field and making up for it with … 3 AST per game?

Not a good sign for the future.

Speaking of point guards, can you say Derrick Rose?
