Trade No. 4 – Houston Rockets

The Minnesota Timberwolves trade Andrew Wiggins and Jeff Teague to the Houston Rockets, in return for Eric Gordon, Brandon Knight, James Ennis, and two 1st round picks in 2019/2023.

The Rockets were rumored to have dropped four 1st round picks for Jimmy Butler’s talents only a month back, so seeing the Rockets bet on MVP James Harden and Chris Paul’s (Immovable) contract, makes a lot of sense if they can get Wiggins.

The Rockets do this because of the uncertainty of Paul’s health and the unlikeliness that Houston can bring any scorers in free agency on a minimum. Teague fills the gap of an injured Paul when that happens and Wiggins gets to be used efficiently in a Mike D’Antoni system where he spreads the floors with his shooters and Harden at the helm of the offense.

Getting the ball out of Wiggs’ hands is how you can use him better, spot up shots breeds confidence in the wing and he mentally builds off those kind of takes.

As for Minnesota, they get future assets down-the-road, and Eric Gordon to slide into the starting shooting guard spot very nicely. Brandon Knight would most likely never see the floor, but James Ennis is an underrated role playing defensive wing that can help tremendously off the bench to slide into Covington’s role when needed.

I like this move as one of the more well-rounded deals in this column. However, I can’t see Thibs making a deal that doesn’t give him more “win-now” players.

Our next move is a shot in the dark for a state that needs a Gordon Hayward replacement.
