The Timberwolves made some questionable decisions following the cap spike in 2016. Through no fault of his own, Gorgui Dieng just happened to be a winner in this scenario. But now, he is virtually untradeable with his terrible contract.

Luckily, the Pelicans might be willing to take on Dieng’s bad contract to add a first-round pick to help their rebuild process along.

Minnesota needs to jump ahead of everyone when it comes to Mirotic and see what kind of value the Pelicans are placing on their big man. While things may be complicated a bit due to his current injury, it is supposedly a short-term issue and he should be back on the court again soon.

Mirotic is only on a one-year deal and most likely won’t resign after the season. The best part about this trade is that this trade is about helping the team now and saving cap space for the future. Adding a stretch-four with the ability to drop 30-plus on any given night would be a huge deal when it comes to the Wolves’ playoff hopes.

Indeed, that is the stretch-four the Timberwolves need to help spread the floor for KAT to operate in the paint.

Add the recent increase in aggression from Andrew Wiggins, and the Timberwolves are just a player away from making the playoffs in the Western Conference. The time to act is now.
