Tre Jones – Duke, PG

In 2015, the Duke Blue Devils raised a championship banner thanks to the Final Four’s most astounding player, Tyus Jones. The hero from Apple Valley, Minnesota took over the championship game, scoring 23 points in a victory over Wisconsin. Duke will look to repeat their success of 2015 with Tyus’ little brother, Tre Jones, running the show this time around.

The hometown kid Tre Jones has been a crucial part of Duke’s dominant starting lineup this season. Jones serves as the unselfish distributor for the scoring talents of Zion Williamson, RJ Barrett, and Cam Reddish, and has even proven himself as one of college basketball’s elite defenders. Duke will look for Jones to run the show with title dreams on the line in the coming weeks.

The Minnesota Timberwolves’ front office and players will be watching Duke in the NCAA tournament to get a good look at Tyus Jones’ brother, Tre. He is currently projected at the end of the first round but Minnesota has shown in the past that they are willing to trade up from the second round into the late first in order to draft a Jones brother. Jones will need to prove that he has the ability to score with a good showing in the NCAA tournament after struggling from the field much of this year.

If he can take over games the same way his brother did during Duke’s championship run in 2015, then perhaps he could see himself backing up his own brother on the Timberwolves’ roster by fall.

Opening game: vs. NC Central/North Dakota St. on Friday at 6:10 pm CT

We’ll have additional March Madness coverage over the next few weeks as we begin to explore players who may the best possible fit for the Wolves in June’s draft.
