The Minnesota Timberwolves enter a crucial 2019 offseason with nobody leading the front office.

A search for the next president of basketball operations has begun. The fate of the Minnesota Timberwolves franchise will rest in the hands of that chosen candidate.

The Minnesota Timberwolves have a plethora of questions entering the 2019 offseason that all need to be answered.

Will Ryan Saunders be given the permanent title of head coach? How will Minnesota manage their numerous impending free agents? Should the Wolves draft a lottery pick who can contribute immediately or a prospect with a high ceiling?

However, the most important question that must be answered quickly is: Who will be the team’s president of basketball operations?

On April 10th, the Minnesota Timberwolves formally announced that they had begun searching for a new president of basketball operations. This, of course, was the logical trajectory for the team after the departure of Tom Thibodeau, who had served as both head coach and president of basketball operations since 2016.

This is a monumental decision for the future of the franchise in an offseason with so much uncertainty. The Wolves have a true superstar in Karl-Anthony Towns and must take advantage of his prime years with the team.

There will be many names mentioned as possible candidates as Minnesota searches both current executives around the league and even some who do not currently hold front office positions. No matter where the search leads, the decision must be made with full confidence and a clear plan for the future.

The next president of basketball operations will have immediate decisions to make regarding the futures of interim head coach Ryan Saunders and current general manager Scott Layden before turning their attention to an important upcoming draft.

The future of the Timberwolves franchise may rest in the hands of one of these deserving candidates.
