Multiple outlets have Minnesota selecting Brandon Clarke with the 11th overall pick in the draft. So many, in fact, that it would be negligent not to mention the 22-year old when analyzing potential draft targets for the Timberwolves.

Clarke is another big from Gonzaga who not only helps replenish a depleted front court, but also addresses another issue facing the Timberwolves: defense. He is a 6’8″, incredibly versatile defender who lead the NCAA in blocks during his last season in Gonzaga.

As The Ringer’s Kevin O’Connor points out, Clarke logged as many blocks as he did missed shots this past season. He’s quick on his feet and has great instinct, making him a great shot blocker and a solid pick-and-roll defender.

Clarke also led the NCAA in field goal percentage. He showed the ability to finish through contact in the post and portrayed signs of being able to stretch the floor and hit outside shots. However, he only shot 69.4 percent from the free throw line in college and has yet to expand his game to 3-point range.

Regardless, Clarke would fit great next to Towns from a defensive perspective, as he is able to cover space, recover quickly, and block shots. Towns also makes up for what Clarke lacks in offensive floor spacing and rebounding, allowing Clarke to flourish at what he’s best at and develop in the areas of his game where he lacks.
