Sekou Doumbouya, F, France

Sekou Doumbouya is a 6-foot-9 forward from France who is only 18 years old and has been playing basketball for less than five years.

There are certainly some parallels between Doumbouya’s status as a prospect and how Giannis Antetokounmpo was viewed entering the 2013 draft. Doumbouya is a teenager from overseas with great length and obvious natural basketball ability. He needs to put on weight and work on his jumper, and there is a lack of extensive scouting footage for fans to watch.

But there are also plenty of differences, too. For starters, Doumbouya is a couple inches shorter, and while he has plenty of work to do when it comes to his long-range jumper, there is reason to believe he’s further along in that category than Antentokounmpo was at this time six years ago.

The most exciting skills to project with Doumbouya are on the defensive end of the floor. He should be able to step in immediately and contribute as a defender, and a highly switchable one at that.

Defenders who can switch seamlessly and guard multiple positions are a key factor in the league’s most successful defenses today. Any offense that Doumbouya would be able to contribute would be a bonus, and he should at least be competent on that end of the floor.

Doumbouya is being mocked as early as No. 8 in the draft, and while it’s rare to see him sliding past Wolves’ No. 11 slot, he could potentially fall into the mid-teens as well. It does seem as though it would be a mild surprise if he isn’t taken at No. 11, either for the Wolves or another team that they may end up trading with.
