1. D’Angelo Russell going to Golden State

July 1st was supposed to be the best day of the year for the Wolves. That was the day that Karl-Anthony Towns’ best friend, D’Angelo Russell, was supposed to be headed to Minnesota to become a Timberwolf.

The most likely scenario would have been a sign and trade with Brooklyn. The sign-and-trade with Brooklyn did happen, but there was another team involved: the Golden State Warriors.

More from Dunking with Wolves

Instead of Russell coming to the Land of 10,000 Lakes, he was headed to the Bay Area and Shabazz Napier and Treveon Graham were on their way from Brooklyn to Minneapolis. It was not the Russell trade that Minnesota hoped to make.

Not everyone wanted Russell on the Wolves, but many fans were so excited that a star player had interest in coming to Minnesota. That is something that has rarely happened in the history of the Timberwolves.

Many fans have lost their interest in Russell coming to Minnesota as they believe there are other needs on the roster. But still, there are plenty of fleeting thoughts about what could’ve been if Minnesota had acquired him this summer.

This moment proves to be the most devastating of this season. After weeks of hopes and prayers from fans, Towns’ recruiting efforts, and the aggressiveness of Gersson Rosas, Wolves fans were left empty-handed and heartbroken by the D’Angelo Russell sign-and-trade.
