Minnesota Timberwolves: 3 intriguing trade targets

While Beasley and Hernangomez project to be role players, Buddy Hield could be that third star that Wolves fans have coveted for so long.

Hield has reportedly become frustrated (subscription required) with how the Kings’ season is going, which may mean he wants out in favor of a new situation.

The 26-year-old sharpshooting guard is on the last year of his deal before a four-year, $94 million contract extension kicks in next year. However, that’s not a bad price for someone with Hield’s skillset and it’s a front-loaded deal so it won’t hurt the Timberwolves’ salary situation too much down the road.

Although he’s gone a little cold from three-point range this year, Hield shot 42.7% or better from deep in each of his previous two seasons which would make him a great fit on a Wolves team that desperately needs some outside shooting.

Hield is fully capable of playing off-the-ball giving more opportunities for Towns and Wiggins to make plays with the ball in their hands while Buddy spaces the floor and is always ready to knock down a three.

Hield isn’t the world’s greatest defender, but he wouldn’t be asked to cover the opposition’s go-to guy very often with Minnesota’s current group of defensive-minded wings.

The Wolves would certainly have to give up a valuable asset or two in order to acquire Buddy Hield, but his perfect fit alongside Towns and Wiggins makes him worth it.
