5 Minnesota Timberwolves players who are having career years
3. Karl-Anthony Towns
Multiple injuries and a short suspension have kept Towns out of 29 games this season.
If Towns had played in most of those missed games, he was likely headed to his third consecutive All-Star Game and his second appearance on an All-NBA team after the conclusion of this season. The numbers that Towns has put up this season in an abbreviated schedule are very impressive.
Towns has seen a dip in rebounding, which can partially be attributed to him being spaced further from the basket this season than any season prior. He has pulled down 10.8 rebounds per game this season, which is still a healthy amount, just not as high as we are accustomed to seeing.
Besides the dip in rebounding, Town’s 26.5 points, 4.4 assists, and 3.3 3-pointers made per game are all career highs for the big man. Plus, Towns is boasting a healthy 41.2 percent 3-point percentage on 7.9 attempts per game.
Let’s look at how his numbers stack up against the rest of the league, according to NBA.com:
- PPG: 10th (first among centers)
- RPG: 8th (eighth among centers)
- APG: 45th (third among centers)
- 3PM: 10th (first among centers)
- 3P%: 15th (first among centers)
Towns has shown that he is one of the most gifted offensive talents in the NBA and this season has been his best yet. Let’s not forget that Towns has never played with a dynamic point guard like Russell, who will seemingly open up the game even more for the the Kentucky product.
Don’t be shocked at all to see Towns have another career year next season.
