3 players that have likely played their last game in Minnesota Timberwolves uniform
2. Kelan Martin
The Timberwolves found a steal in Kelan Martin when they invited him to Las Vegas Summer League and he played himself into a two-way contract.
With all the changes Minnesota went through for the duration of the season between acquisitions and injuries, Martin has filled the void nicely this season. On the year, he’s averaged 6.4 points and 3.1 rebounds for the Wolves. He’s only shooting 39.2 percent from the field and 26 percent from downtown. In the G League, he was hitting on 47.2 percent of his shots and 37.7 percent from beyond the arc.
As well as he has played overall, he has not been efficient when it’s come to shooting the ball with the Timberwolves. He is an undrafted rookie and hasn’t had the most time to perfect his craft, but those are not numbers that fly on a roster that has been looking for shooters.
Despite not shooting well, there has been a lot of bright moments for the former Butler Bulldog. However, Minnesota will have to make some decisions this offseason on where they would like to spend their money.
The roster they have now is not built to contend, so the team shouldn’t be holding onto players if they believe they aren’t part of a long-term process. Players like Jordan McLaughlin, who’s also on a two-way contract, should be re-signed with the way he’s played this season. Then, the Wolves will have to account for Beasley, Hernangomez, draft picks and free agency.
There’s more that goes into it and if Martin agrees to a cheap contract, then by all means he should be re-signed. At 24 years old, this may be his last time he has suited up in a Timberwolves uniform.
