The NBA Draft

Given that the college basketball season was cut short, visits and workouts can’t be scheduled, and the draft is coming up in the next couple of months, this may be one of the most challenging drafts in recent history. It also looks unlikely that the NBPA would agree to reschedule any draft.

That being said, Minnesota has a chance at picking one through five, and there are quite a few things that can be done with those picks. One of the players that the Wolves should go after is LaMelo Ball. Now I know this may seem ambitious, considering there were two other guards that Minnesota would be passing on (in Edwards and Hayes). Ball would allow D’Angelo Russell to slide down to the two and be the natural shooting guard that he is, given that he is a three-level scorer. Doing this would give the Wolves a point guard that they haven’t had since Ricky Rubio, somebody that would be able to rack up the assists and be a true point guard, not necessarily a ball-dominant scorer.

Another player that would make a lot of sense is Onyeka Okongwu, a big man from Southern California. Okongwu fills the exact need that the Timberwolves need at the four position. He has shown that he can be a great help defender, as well as that he can guard multiple positions on the perimeter with efficiency. Okongwu’s ceiling is also very high. He has all the physical attributes that you need to be a successful NBA four, and he fits the exact need that the Wolves have right now. Most drafts have him projected to go in the top-five picks.
