Turner’s Defensive Fit

Defense has and always will be Myles Turner’s calling card. He is an excellent on and off-ball defender, being absolutely dominant in the paint especially. Turner averages over two blocks per game and has done so for the majority of his entire career. Here is an example of his interior defense in the final 30 seconds of a one-possession game.

Turner is always aware of where the ball is going, making him a perfect pick-and-roll defender. Here he is against the Celtics: Turner helps trap Kemba Walker and recovers quickly enough to get the block on Theis.

Turner can also hang with smaller guards, as well. Here he is tasked with guarding All-Star starter Luka Doncic in an isolation scenario and holds his own.

In that exact same game (roughly 45 seconds after the possession which he guarded Doncic), he came up with a big block along the perimeter against Kristaps Porzingis.

Turner can guard the best forward/big on the opposing team. The Timberwolves need their own Dennis Rodman — someone that can take on a tough defensive assignment and come away victorious. Myles Turner could be exactly that — he could be the Giannis-stopper.
