Unprotected Players

Jacob Evans

Jacob Evans is a solid young defensive prospect but really just didn’t find time in the Timberwolves rotation once acquired. He has talent but just is not worth more than the players protected. Evans could be the player poached from the Timberwolves, although it seems likely given some of the other unprotected players.

Naz Reid

Reid is the player to look out for when it comes to possibly losing a player. He was overall really solid when filling in for Towns over the final dozen games or so. He has both offensive and defensive upside and maybe the long-term backup center for the Timberwolves.

Omari Spellman

Minnesota really just does not seem to be very interested in Spellman as a player. He has potential as a former first-round pick to be a stretch-4 with high defensive upside, although he spent nearly all of his time with the Timberwolves’ G-League affiliate once acquired. He probably remains with Minnesota, although he does not seem to be much more than a trade chip for Gersson Rosas.

Jarred Vanderbilt

Vanderbilt is a solid rebounding big that could find a role on another team. He has lots of talent although he simply did not play much for Minnesota this past season. Again, it is unlikely an expansion team selects him over, say, Naz Reid.

Jaylen Nowell

Nowell is a 3-and-D prospect that just has not panned out at the NBA level. After shooting 44-percent on three-point attempts in college, he is now averaging less than 15-percent on two attempts per game through fifteen appearances. It does not seem like he has much of an NBA future.
