Overall Fit

Both Bey and Williams would seem to fit in seamlessly with what the Wolves are trying to do on both sides of the ball. It’s amazing, really.

The main difference between the two seems to be in their level of NBA readiness. While Bey could step in and provide quality minutes right away, and maybe even start, Williams might take some time to develop.

However, what Williams could potentially provide after a few years of growth is rare. There aren’t a whole lot of players in the league who can knock down 3’s, run the pick-and-roll as both a ball-handler and screener, make good cuts, block shots, clog passing lanes, switch onto guards, and rebound.

And, while it’s possible he can’t do all of those things, there’s a good chance he can do most.

The most concerning part of his game is definitely the jump shot. All signs point to the jumper turning out, especially considering the positive reviews on his work ethic and mentality. But if that doesn’t come, he becomes more of a rotation piece and not much of a difference-maker.

Advantage: Williams. I’m betting on the jump shot.

Overall Advantage: Williams.

This isn’t so much a slight against Saddiq Bey as it is a nod to Patrick Williams’ potential fit and the value he could provide for Minnesota in this year’s draft.

Both players would be great adds, and Wolves brass should be thrilled if one or both are still on the board at No. 16. However, given the choice between two great options, Patrick Williams might be the better of the two.
