Minnesota Timberwolves: NBA Draft Big Board 2.0
Players 11-15
11. Tyrese Maxey, Guard, Kentucky
12. Obi Toppin, Forward, Dayton
13. Patrick Williams, Forward, FSU
14. Jalen Smith, Big, Maryland
15. Devon Dotson, Guard, Kansas
Obi Toppin is a very good offensive player. He can shoot very well and could be a unicorn offensively. That said, he is just not a good fit next to Karl-Anthony Towns. Putting two players with both being relatively poor defense is just not a good combination, especially for one of the worst interior defensive teams in the NBA.
Jalen Smith is a super interesting big prospect, though. Earlier I stated that two very valuable traits for bigs are rim protection and outside shooting. Smith is very good at both of those things, and he could be a very good role player – someone that could be excellent next to Towns.
Devon Dotson is a two-way guard that can do a variety of things. He is very quick, great defensively, and has the upside to improve his shot as well. He is the closest thing to Fred VanVleet in this draft class.
