Restricted Free Agency

The Minnesota Timberwolves have a plethora of restricted free agents this year. Malik Beasley is the biggest, and he averaged over 20 points playing his dozen games for Minnesota this past year. The others include Jordan McLaughlin, who was impressive for a two-way contract, Kelan Martin, and Juan Hernangomez.

Kelan Martin

Kelan Martin was, very simply, not impressive this season. When he played, he was not good, and he did not play often to begin with. Martin had splits of 39/26/97, and that just is not good enough to be a small forward in the NBA, especially when you are not particularly a good defender.

Verdict: Not re-signed

Juan Hernangomez

Juan Hernangomez is an interesting forward in terms of long-term productivity. He was very efficient in terms of shooting during his 14-game stretch for the Timberwolves. He shot 45/42/61 and that should be enough for at least another year with the Timberwolves.

Verdict: Qualifying offer extended

Jordan McLaughlin

Jordan McLaughlin was a great rotational guard for the Minnesota Timberwolves this past season. He was efficient all over the floor (splits of 49/38/67) and was a plus defender as well. If the Timberwolves do not re-sign him someone else will. Being as good of a facilitator as McLaughlin was this past year is rare, and he should absolutely be on the team for 2020-21.

Verdict: Re-signed (two-years, $10 million)

Malik Beasley

Malik Beasley was excellent in a Timberwolves uniform this past season. In 14 games (33 minutes per game), he averaged 21 points, five rebounds, and two assists. He was efficient in his scoring, and should be looked at in a very high regard given he is only 23 years of age (younger than Brandon Clarke and Kendrick Nunn, two likely All-Rookie selections).

Verdict: Re-signed (four-years, $60 million)
