There were no Minnesota Timberwolves players included as finalists for any of the NBA awards.

Earlier today, the NBA released its three finalists for each and every award. Unfortunately for the Timberwolves, there were no Minnesota players included. The last time that any of the franchises’ players were included as finalists for any of the awards was 2016, when Karl-Anthony Towns won rookie of the year.

This season, Minnesota did not have any players even in contention for any awards. Since they overhauled their roster at the season mid-way point and finished as a bottom-three team in the league, logically the Timberwolves will not be winning any awards.

The only player that has a shot at being included in any awards /All-team honors is Josh Okogie, who has an outside shot at making an All-Defense team selection.

Here are the finalists for each award.

The most valuable player award has been narrowed down to Giannis Antetokounmpo, LeBron James, and James Harden.

The defensive player of the year award is going to be one of Giannis Antetokounmpo, Anthony Davis, or Rudy Gobert.

The most improved player is going to be one of Bam Adebayo, Luka Doncic, or Brandon Ingram.

The field for sixth man of the year has been shrunk to Montrezl Harrell, Lou Williams, and Dennis Schroder.

Lastly, the NBA’s coach of the year award is going to be one of Mike Budenholzer, Nick Nurse, or Billy Donovan.

While they do not have anyone competing for awards this season, the Timberwolves should be more competitive next year. Should they improve to a middle-of-the-pack playoff team, Ryan Saunders may be in contention for coach of the year. Jarrett Culver, if he improves dramatically, could be a candidate to become the most improved player, as well.

Next. A glimmer of hope for a second bubble. dark

The Minnesota Timberwolves may not be happy right now, but they have a lot to look forward to moving forward.
