Minnesota Timberwolves: 5 potential trades for the No. 1 pick: Atlanta Hawks

If Atlanta believes Anthony Edwards is the perfect backcourt mate to Trae Young, expect them to be aggressive in moving into the top two picks.

If the Timberwolves were the only team looking to trade out of the top three picks, they could easily acquire Collins and No. 6 from the Hawks. With the Warriors also playing seller, the cost is going to drop significantly and the return goes from Collins to Kevin Huerter.

The Timberwolves again move back and are in range to draft Okungwu, if he’s still available. Kevin Huerter comes in as a sweet shooter off the bench, helping shore up the second unit. With the Hawks current trajectory, the 2020 top-five projected pick is bound to convey to the Timberwolves somewhere between picks 16-24. Rosas is a firm believer in gathering future assets, and without the 2022 pick, this deal doesn’t happen.

Layman is once again a tough loss, but it’s difficult to pass up on the upside of Huerter and whoever the Timberwolves draft at No. 6.

Both teams again come out with a win in this trade, finding pieces that fit their current and future outlooks.
