Minnesota Timberwolves: 5 potential trades for the No. 1 pick: New York Knicks

New York had a hard-luck lottery night, dropping down to the No. 8 pick. They have their sights set on LaMelo Ball being their point guard of the future, forming a trio with RJ Barrett and Mitchell Robinson.

Minnesota needs to give them a call and see what they’re willing to unload to climb up to No. 1.

This is the one trade that doesn’t net the Timberwolves a proven starter, ready to contribute immediately, but it does bring in the most assets for Rosas to use in a future deal if necessary.

At No. 8, it’s unlikely that Okongwu is still available, so the Timberwolves will look to find the next best fit. Isaac Okoro, Saddiq Bey, Patrick Williams, and Devin Vassell are all good options for the Timberwolves. They need help at both forward spots and will be looking for guys that can stretch the floor and play hard defense.

Frank Ntilikina is still a young prospect with potential. Ntilikina is already a solid defender, bringing a nice compliment to D’Angelo Russell. While he needs to work on his jump shot, using Ntilikina as a backup he can slot in nicely next to Jordan McLaughlin or Jarrett Culver at the guard spot.

Coming to Minnesota gives Ntilikina a fresh start without all the spotlight of New York and allows them to play next to two All-Stars and solid foundation of role players.
