Minnesota Timberwolves: 5 potential trades for the No. 1 pick: Orlando Magic

Of the five trades, this one is my favorite for a number of reasons.

Orlando is looking at a potential first-round exit of the playoffs for the second straight year after missing the playoffs in six straight years. Vucevic is a star, Fultz is starting to live up to his draft status, but there are still many questions. Jonathan Isaac is struggling to stay healthy, Aaron Gordon doesn’t seem to fit with the roster, and Mo Bamba is still an unknown.

They’re in a place to shake things up drastically and could do so in the draft. Getting the first pick gives them the chance to build a young core alongside Fultz and Isaac, with Bamba in the mix. It’s exciting potential, not to mention Jarred Vanderbilt is only entering his third season.

For Minnesota, they get an established starter to fit right alongside Towns in Aaron Gordon. He settles in as a fourth scoring option, instead of focusing his energy and athleticism on defense and hustle. The pressure is off Gordon to lead the team, and his contract keeps getting friendlier over the next two seasons.

Wesley Iwundu is still a raw prospect but has shown flashes of defensive potential and three-point shooting. He can play off the bench and take time to develop, working to fit in with the stars of Minnesota. The No. 15 pick gives the Timberwolves two options. They can either look to find a 3-and-D wing with either No. 15 and No. 17, hoping one of them can play big minutes early, or they can look to package one or both picks together to either move up or make another trade.

No matter what deal Rosas makes, expect rumors to swirl before draft day as this year is shaping up to be one of the craziest drafts in recent history.
