Another week, another roundup of Minnesota Timberwolves draft news. Plus, minicamp is coming…

The Minnesota Timberwolves are one of the most talked-about teams not currently playing in the playoffs, thanks to their status as the franchise holding the No. 1 pick in this year’s draft.

Mock drafts and big boards continue to be released. Draft rumors are flying. And finally, we’re within a couple of weeks of the Wolves getting the band back together for an official minicamp.

Minnesota Timberwolves Roundup: Draft rumors, minicamp coming

We’ve covered many of the rumors surrounding what the Wolves will ultimately do with the No. 1 pick, but there are nearly endless combinations of outcomes in this particular draft.

ESPN reported earlier in the week that “most” league insiders believe that the Wolves will ultimately select Georgia’s Anthony Edwards at No. 1. Yours truly respectfully disagreed.

It wasn’t the only report suggesting that Edwards is the consensus top prospect in the draft, either.

Timberwolves President of Basketball Operations Gersson Rosas gave an interview to The Athletic’s Jon Krawczynski (subscription required) and described his draft strategy. In short, it’s still “best player available” mode, even stating that it doesn’t matter if it happens to be “a point guard or a big”.

Krawczynski also covers the possibility of the Wolves attempting to trade the pick and squeeze as much value as possible out of landing the No. 1 selection via the lottery.

Also at The Athletic, Sam Vecenie released his Mock Draft 7.1 with only a few tweaks from his last edition. However, the featured change was at No. 1.

In the space which he previously had assigned Edwards to Minnesota, Vecenie shifted his pick in this edition, instead predicting that the Wolves would go with Ball. Of course, there’s always the possibility that they take Ball and trade him, and Vecenie also notes that the Wolves preference is almost surely to trade the pick for a player.

Not related to the draft, there was news that the Wolves are one of at least four NBA teams interested in Argentinian point guard Facundo Campazzo.

D’Angelo Russell appeared on J.J. Redick‘s new The Old Man & The Three podcast and talked about a variety of topics, including discussing Gersson Rosas as a fantastic leader for the Wolves organization and a somewhat telling response to a question about the possibility of playing with LaMelo Ball.

And lastly, Darren Wolfson of KSTP and SKOR North notes that the Timberwolves’ minicamp and intra-squad scrimmages should get underway in just two weeks.

Here’s looking forward to a smattering of training camp-style coverage, and surely some highlights and video packages from the Minnesota Timberwolves fantastic digital media team.

Enjoy this week’s NBA playoff games!
