3 potential Karl-Anthony Towns trades: Timberwolves and Washington Wizards
3. Trading Karl-Anthony Towns to the Washington Wizards
If both players are disgruntled, who says no?
Beal had an outstanding season for the Wizards, averaging 30.5 points and 6.1 assists per game for a young Wizards team in the absence of John Wall. If both Towns and Beal request trades, it is plausible that both front offices would be happy with their returns in this trade.
For the Wizards, Towns would be a great fit with John Wall in his return, providing both a pick and roll partner as well as an outside shooting threat for kick-outs. Wall has enjoyed his pairing with Beal over his career, but a partnership with a top-notch big is something Wall hasn’t really experienced and could take his game to a new level.
For the Wolves, Beal would be an outstanding return for Towns. Yes, Towns is a better player in a vacuum, and this trade would leave several questions regarding the Wolves frontcourt, the addition of Beal would take the Wolves’ backcourt to a whole new level both offensively and defensively.
Beal has shown the ability to score at high volumes, playing both on-ball and off-ball. His defensive skills are also respectable, and the Wolves need all the help they can get defensively.
Though this swap would be interesting, it would obviously require a trade request from both players involved, as both organizations would be extremely hesitant to consider any offers regarding their best player.
More than anything, this article should highlight the magnitude and difficulty of any trade involving Karl-Anthony Towns.
While there is little basis for a Towns trade possibility as of today, it is important to consider the factors that go into trading a star of KAT’s value in today’s NBA when looking into the future of the Minnesota Timberwolves.
