3 potential Karl-Anthony Towns trades: Timberwolves and Atlanta Hawks

1. Trading Karl-Anthony Towns to the Atlanta Hawks

This would certainly be a tough trade to pull the trigger on for the Hawks, trading away three potential starters along with their first-round pick in this year’s draft, although this year’s draft has been graded low compared to past years.

However, Towns could be a nice fit with Trae Young in Atlanta’s fast-paced offensive system. If the Hawks acquired Towns, it would take their offense to a whole new level. While Collins is nice, Towns is that much more dynamic.

The Hawks already have several wings with upside, including Kevin Huerter, Cam Reddish, and DeAndre’ Bembry.

For the Wolves, this would be a solid haul for the centerpiece of their franchise. Though his fit in Ryan Saunders’ 3-point-heavy system, Capela would undoubtedly be a defensive upgrade from Towns.

John Collins would be a great fit for the Wolves offensively, showing the ability to spread the floor at the 4. Hunter is another nice young asset the Wolves could acquire along with the Hawks pick in this year’s draft. He was the No. 4 pick in the 2019 draft and has plenty of upside remaining.

This would allow the Wolves to re-tool on the fly with a pair of almost-All-Stars, plus another high pick in this year’s draft. Minnesota would have the No. 1, No. 6, No. 17, and No. 33 picks and could choose to go in a variety of directions on draft night, including making an additional major trade.

The Hawks have plenty of tradeable pieces and a lottery pick to play with, so they’re certainly a viable trade partner.
