Anthony Edwards NBA Draft Prospect Profile: Strengths
Edwards’ physical profile absolutely fits at the NBA level. He stands 6-foot-5 with a 6-foot-9 wingspan and has the athleticism and leaping ability to compete on both ends of the floor.
There’s no question that he can dominate smaller wings physically, get to the basket, and finish through contact. He has a quick first step, and while he settled for jump shots too often at the collegiate level, an aggressive version of Edwards driving relentlessly to the basket is the primary reason NBA front offices are so intrigued.
This part of his game conjures up pictures of other big, bruising guards who do damage going downhill. Think prime Lance Stephenson, or pre-injury Victor Oladipo.
The combination of size, length, athleticism, quickness, and strength suggest that Edwards will be a dynamic scorer from Day One at a pro. While he didn’t need to use much touch in the paint in college because of his strength, his ability to finish at the rim should carry over to the NBA as well.
While Edwards’ shooting percentages aren’t impressive (more on that later), his shot motion and form are solid. His mechanics, balance, and athleticism all suggest that he can improve significantly as a shooter. Additionally, he made 79.4 percent of his free throw attempts at Georgia, which is a solid indicator of shooting ability.
Edwards’ physicality and ability to dominate in stretches is essentially his case to be the No 1 pick. Now, if he could improve upon some of his weaknesses even a little bit, he would easily be the best prospect in the draft…
