Minnesota Timberwolves Roundup: On Kevin Garnett, Juancho, and Culver
By Ben Beecken
There are a ton of Minnesota Timberwolves notes to cover, including on Kevin Garnett, Juancho Hernangomez, and Jarrett Culver.
The NBA Draft is just under a month away, but there is still plenty of non-draft-related Minnesota Timberwolves news to discuss.
Kevin Garnett was in town last week, plus there is photographic evidence of Juancho Hernangomez on a movie set, and Jarrett Culver is a great dude.
Minnesota Timberwolves Roundup: Kevin Garnett in Minneapolis
We’ve known for a few months that Kevin Garnett is interested in purchasing the Minnesota Timberwolves. There are clear pros and cons to a potential Garnett-led ownership group, but there hasn’t been much news on that front lately.
Last week, Garnett was in the Twin Cities, but apparently in a capacity entirely unrelated to a potential foray into ownership.
According to Chris Hine of the Star Tribune, Garnett was there to meet with community and business leaders, and it the visit was mostly related to impacting the Twin Cities in the wake of the George Floyd tragedy. Garnett had not been in town since Floyd’s death in late May and wanted to visit the memorial and meet with members of the community.
When asked about the Wolves’ ownership situation, Garnett declined comment.
Minnesota Timberwolves Roundup: Juancho Hernangomez on set
The Timberwolves Twitter account shared a photo from Netflix of Juancho Hernangomez on the set of the new Adam Sandler movie he is filming in New York.
You may recall that Hernangomez missed the Wolves’ voluntary In-Market Bubble due to his previous commitment to Sandler’s movie. Here’s hoping for a successful film debut for Juancho.
Minnesota Timberwolves Roundup: Jarrett Culver on set
Shortly before Jarret Culver officially kicks off his NBA career, he struck up a friendship with a big Texas Tech Red Raiders fan suffering from cystic fibrosis.
Here’s a preview of the episode of Players TV that was put together about Culver and his young friend.
Kudos to Culver for being such a genuinely great dude. There’s been consistent praise regarding him as a person, and this only further backs it up. Great job, JC.
Lastly, it’s important to note that the Timberwolves franchise did a good job recognizing the life of longtime Star Tribune sports reporter and radio personality Sid Hartman, who passed away on Sunday at the age of 100.
Hartman was instrumental in bringing the Lakers to Minneapolis and was even involved in the front office for a time. There’s a statue of Sid outside of Target Center, and while Hartman covered all Minnesota sports, basketball seemed to be his first true love.
The thoughts and prayers of the Dunking With Wolves staff are with the Hartman family.
