Minnesota Timberwolves player poised for a breakout: Jarrett Culver

Jarrett Culver is another player that that should have a breakout year. Yours truly covered that a bit just a couple of months ago.

Given Culver’s status as a recent top-six draft pick, there remains a solid chance that the Wolves include him in any major trade this offseason.

That said, Culver showed improvement in January when compared to the start of his rookie year. In January, he averaged 12 points per game and a field goal percentage of 43.1. In December, those numbers were just 7.2 points and 36.5 percent.

Although he did fall a little bit in both those categories in February, he still showed some progress overall from the first few weeks of his rookie year.

While Culver didn’t exactly live up to the expectations that the Wolves had when they traded Dario Saric to move from No. 11 to No. 6 and take him on draft night last summer, that doesn’t mean that Culver can’t improve and be an important piece to the team. Remember, he’s still only 21 years old.

One thing we do know is that he can be reliable on defense and even if he doesn’t improve a lot on offense, the team could still use him in defensive situations.

The Wolves are in something of an in-between stage where they aren’t quite sure what their identity is yet, so this year might be the year where Jarrett Culver finds his place on the team and improves in whatever role he finds himself in.
