The San Antonio Spurs are something of a mystery this draft season – as they usually always are. Last offseason, they selected Luka Semanic with the 19th overall pick and Keldon Johnson with the 29th pick. Here, with a lottery pick for the first time in what seems like forever, I would generally expect them to take a swing for a high-risk, possibly-high-payout player.

The Spurs are being held up by the skeleton of LaMarcus Aldridge and shell of DeMar DeRozan. The team desperately needs talent to replace those guys – and while San Antonio likely will not be vying for a playoff spot this coming year, they certainly have an opportunity to load up on more young talent.

Patrick Williams is a player that Gregg Popovich can mold into something that he wants. He is a blank canvas of a player, if one were to exist. Williams is a good defender and an elite athlete. He has shown promise within his long-range jump shot and can score inside already. The fit in San Antonio is perfect.
