NBA Mock Draft 5.0: New No. 1 pick for Wolves, Bulls take Toppin
The Sacramento Kings are a weird team that usually makes mistakes with their draft picks. Last year, they did not have a pick due to a salary dump trade with the 76ers that sent Nik Stauskas (yes, I know you probably forgot about his existence), Jason Thompson, and Carl Landry to Philadelphia. That trade is the one that opened up Sacramento’s books enough to sign Kosta Koufos, Marco Belinelli, and one post-prime Rajon Rondo. Yikes.
In 2018, though, they did have a top-3 selection, which they used on Marvin Bagley, one pick before All-NBA member Luka Doncic was taken. I would say that this is bad luck but it is more-so just the incompetence of both ownership and that front office.
Now, Monte McNair is the general manager, and while I would like to believe the team will refrain from making any major mistakes, this is still the Sacramento Kings. Isaiah Stewart is an NBA-ready big that might be able to stretch the floor but taking him this high would still be a mistake. Stewart should be able to become a starting big at the NBA level, and would actually pair nicely with Bagley in the front court.
