The New York Knicks should have one goal this offseason. Whatever Leon Rose decides to do, he has to surround RJ Barrett with actual, real talent – players that can actually shoot, rather than the Elfrid Payton–Kevin Knox–Taj Gibson–Julius Randle disaster of a roster that was the 2019-20 Knicks.
Devin Vassell is a can’t-miss player. He has a solid, consistent 3-point shot alongside good on and off-ball defense. Pairing him with RJ Barrett is only going to improve both players – and if the Knicks are able to land a decent point guard in free agency, should be able to maximize a roster that really needs at least minimal success.
The best player on the board was Onyeka Okongwu, but with Mitchell Robinson already manning the starting center spot, Vassell makes more than enough sense with the eighth overall selection.
