The Boston Celtics need more backcourt depth on their roster. While they added Carsen Edwards and Romeo Langford in last years’ draft, neither player looked particularly promising, and they especially do not bring the defensive capability that Maxey does.

The Celtics have lots of talent in their starting lineup and, if they do not try to trade up for either of the two bigs on draft night, are likely to just stand pat and attempt to improve their rotation.

Another option for the Celtics would be to move their draft picks in order to acquire a seasoned veteran. One player that has been rumored is Jrue Holiday. I’m not sure how much the Pelicans want even more draft picks, but it certainly would be an option.

Regardless, Tyrese Maxey is a pro-ready combo guard that can contribute right away. His shot should be improved at the NBA level and he is ready to play high-level defense, even as a rookie.
