Pick Analysis. 3. 170. Scouting Report. Guard. Illawarra Hawks. LaMelo Ball. player

The Charlotte Hornets are one of the biggest mysteries in this draft. If you listen to the noise about the team over the course of the past week, you would think that they would be attempting to make a move up for the first overall pick.

There are several issues with this, however. First, the noise that is being heard is likely coming from the Timberwolves camp. The Hornets have a notoriously quiet front office, particularly over the past several years – most of the ‘rumors’ to come out about the team have been false. Second, that possible trade scenario was probably floated by Minnesota in order to drum up more interest from those interested in James Wiseman, perhaps the Golden State Warriors. Finally, Hornets general manager Mitch Kupchak has said repeatedly that they intend to keep the third overall pick and select the best player available.

If that is, in fact, the case, the selection here is LaMelo Ball, who is the least linked to Charlotte of the ‘big three’ players in the draft this year.

LaMelo Ball is, according to most outlets, the best overall player in this draft class. He is an incredible passer, is an elite dribbler, and has upside as both a shooter and defender. The Hornets need to take a home run swing, and Ball would be exactly that.
