Minnesota Timberwolves: 3 wings for the Wolves to sign in free agency

Wings for the Minnesota Timberwolves to sign in NBA free agency: No. 3
3. Jae Crowder
Another option the Wolves should consider is another former Miami Heat forward, Jae Crowder. Crowder would be a little more expensive, as he’s proven his worth on multiple playoff teams, and none more so than the Heat’s run to the NBA Finals this year.
This might be the only reason why the Wolves don’t pursue Crowder, but if they are looking for another veteran presence and a reliable player on defense, Crowder would be the guy.
Crowder was top-25 in the league in blocks last season and top-40 in steals. These types of numbers could be beneficial for a defense that has been well below-average for a long time.
Crowder would immediately step in and start for the Wolves, holding down the 4 with the ability to slide down to the 3 in certain lineups. He’s a career 42.1 percent 3-point shooter and can lockdown multiple positions. Crowder is exactly the kind of multi-positional defender that Gersson Rosas and Ryan Saunders prefer to employ.
Miami will undoubtedly attempt to re-sign Crowder, but Jae will be looking for some security as he enters in his age-30 season so he may not be the easiest sign.
Offense isn’t the Minnesota’s biggest concern with Towns and Russell as main options, but any three of these guys would improve the defense immediately. They can all guard multiple positions and would fit what the Wolves are trying to do on offense.
While their salary requirements will vary quite a bit on the open market, they would all be fits on different levels for the Timberwolves.
