Minnesota Timberwolves: Projecting the new starting five
SMALL FORWARD – ANTHONY EDWARDS
With the first overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, the Minnesota Timberwolves selected Georgia wing Anthony Edwards.
Edwards is an interesting fit with the Wolves in the sense that he should be able to start for the team right away. He is a wing that is really, really good at getting to the rim. He has the potential to be an elite scorer and paired with two good playmakers in Russell and Rubio, has the talent and situation around him to be special.
The Timberwolves have a few options at small forward. The most prominent outside of Edwards is Josh Okogie, who would provide less spacing but is objectively the Wolves’ best perimeter defender.
Another option would be Jarrett Culver. However, barring any unforeseen developments in his game, it’s more than likely he is coming off of the bench this coming season.
Edwards is probably a more natural two-guard than small forward. However, he has the capability to play both, and with the acquisition of Rubio, should easily be able to slide down to the three.
