Jake Layman

7.0 points, 2.0 rebounds, 0.5 assists, 0.4 steals, 0.3 blocks

Layman is likely going to play some power forward this coming season and was an excellent fit alongside Karl-Anthony Towns in their limited minutes together. He is a forward that can space the floor in a small role offensively, and does enough on the defensive end to be, at the very least, respectable.

Layman should be a rotational player for the Timberwolves this coming season and might even start depending on how Saunders views Juan Hernangomez.

Juan Hernangomez

7.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 0.8 assists, 0.4 steals, 0.5 blocks

Juan Hernangomez re-signed in Minnesota on a three-year contract worth around $21 million (third year is a team-option). Hernangomez is, at least for now, a pure floor spacer from the power forward position. Other than that, he does not offer much.

Hernangomez has never had a consistent rotational role for a team – the Nuggets only played him for 12 minutes per game through half of the 2019-20 NBA season after they acquired Jerami Grant from the Oklahoma City Thunder. Hernangomez will play solid minutes for the Timberwolves, hopefully becoming at least adequate on the defensive end.

Ed Davis

3.5 points, 4.2 rebounds, 0.2 assists, 0.5 steals, 0.5 blocks

The Minnesota Timberwolves acquired Ed Davis to be the backup center for what was basically only a second-round draft pick. Despite not having great statistics the past few years, Davis is already one of the best perimeter (and interior) defenders for the Timberwolves.

Davis should be getting around ten minutes per game, or just filling in whenever Towns hits rests. Regardless, players like Davis round out a roster that needed a lot more veteran talent.
