Coach of the Year

DJ: Steve Kerr, Golden State Warriors

The Golden State Warriors are going to make the playoffs this year, and if they secure a top-6 seed, Steve Kerr will, once again, be hailed as one of the league’s best coaches. Other contenders for this award are Lloyd Pierce, Monty Williams, and Doc Rivers – but I have more confidence in Kerr/Steph Curry than any of those guys.

JT: Steve Nash, Brooklyn Nets

The Nets returning a healthy Kevin Durant will certainly help the case for for first year coach Nash, but the Nets will have the talent and coaching to make a strong push in the Eastern Conference.

MO: Erik Spoelstra, Miami Heat

The Heat are lined up to have one of the best records in the East. Even if they aren’t the one seed, I don’t think someone like Mike Budenholzer would receive many votes after his playoff flame out or Frank Vogel who gets overlooked because he has Lebron on his team so of course, they have a good record.

PF: Rick Carlisle, Dallas Mavericks

Carlisle is one of the best coaches in the NBA and also has one of the best young teams in the league. Led by third-year phenom Luka Doncic, the Mavericks should compete for a top four seed in the Western Conference. That leap and the ascension of Doncic will make Carlisle a popular candidate for Coach of the Year, and I think he wins over the likes of Steve Kerr and Erik Spoelstra.

PL: Doc Rivers, Philadelphia 76ers

He’s not the favorite to win coach of the year, but with the players he has at his disposal, he has a good chance of winning this award. Rivers is a well-respected coach in the NBA, and he should be good at making all the players fit well together. He should give the team a good shot at making a title run.

Final count: Steve Kerr 1, Steve Nash 1, Erik Spoelstra 1, Rick Carlisle 1, Doc Rivers 1
