Minnesota Timberwolves drop second straight game to Warriors, 123-111
The Minnesota Timberwolves lost convincingly to the Golden State Warriors late Wednesday night, despite holding superstar Steph Curry in check for the majority of the game.
The Minnesota Timberwolves are once again struggling. After beating the New Orleans Pelicans on Saturday, the Wolves have dropped two straight games – both coming to the Curry-lead Warriors.
One of the few players that had a good game on Wednesday night was Josh Okogie, whose consistency on defense is significantly better than any other player on the Timberwolves roster. Granted, he can’t shoot, but he makes plays on the defensive end that make him one of the best wing defenders in the league. Sadly, that just will not save the Wolves without their two most prominent players appearing in the game.
In the final quarter of the game, Naz Reid hurt his wrist and walked towards the locker room almost immediately. He has been the Timberwolves’ best player over the course of the past week, and finished with 19 points (6-10 FG), seven rebounds, three steals, and five blocks against the Warriors on Friday night.
Jordan McLaughlin may not have shown much in terms of box score stats, but he was excellent tonight, particularly defensively against Steph Curry. Anthony Edwards was also really good, especially from deep, ultra-efficient from three-point-range.
As stated, Steph Curry was not his usual self, but with solid contributions from Kelly Oubre, Andrew Wiggins, and James Wiseman, he did not need to be anything more than what he provided – barely getting into double digit points. The Warriors as a team finished with over 30 assists – something that is rare in itself.
The result of tonight’s game was nothing less more less than expected, and the Timberwolves go up against one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference on Friday – the Philadelphia 76ers. After Karl-Anthony Towns returns, though, things lighten up temporarily – with Minnesota playing the Spurs, Cavaliers twice, and Thunder twice.
