The Minnesota Timberwolves had a mixed bag of results in their pair of games against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Tonight, they take on the San Antonio Spurs at 7:30 p.m.

The Minnesota Timberwolves are coming off of a 1-1 series against the Cavaliers, winning the first game by five points and dropping the second by two. The San Antonio Spurs, led by DeMar DeRozan, are currently 11-10 and only a half-game out of the Western Conference playoffs at the moment.

What to watch for in Minnesota Timberwolves at San Antonio Spurs

The Minnesota Timberwolves currently sit with a 5-15 record – bad enough to be the worst team in the Western Conference (and by a fairly solid margin). The Spurs, however, have been consistently winning games behind their solid group of core players – something that was unexpected before the season began.

DeRozan’s success this season has largely been the result of him becoming a much, much better playmaker and creator. He is averaging 6.6 assists per game (career high) while only turning the ball over 1.7 times per game (his best mark since his rookie year). That said, San Antonio has been able to surround DeRozan with quality shooting: only two players in the Spurs’ rotation have a 3-point mark less than 34-percent.

That said, the Spurs are coming off of two 15-point-plus losses to the Memphis Grizzles, and will be looking to end that streak against the Timberwolves.

For Minnesota, their first-overall draft selection, Anthony Edwards, has been excellent over the course of his past few games, averaging 18.2 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.2 assists on shooting splits of 43/46/95. If the Timberwolves want a chance to win a shorthanded game against San Antonio, Edwards having another great night might be their key to doing that.
